The evaluation is the treatment.
Not paperwork standing in front of it. Where it hurts and why it hurts are frequently two different places, so we find the why before we treat anything.
About Propel Physical Therapy
A short version of how we started, what we believe, and why every visit is still one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
How We Started
Dr. Joshua Lyon, PT, DPT · Practice Owner
Dr. Joshua Lyon came to physical therapy from the United States Marine Corps. The order matters more than it sounds like it should. Dedication, discipline, and service to other people were the job description long before they were the kind of thing a clinic prints on a wall, and he had already spent a career being measured on whether the person next to him was taken care of. That is an unusual first credential for a physical therapy practice. It turns out to be the relevant one.
The doctorate came after the military. What followed was the full tour of how physical therapy actually gets delivered: treating patients as a clinician, running a clinic as its director, and then serving as Director of Physical Therapy for a multi-site, multi-state organization. That last job is the one where you stop arguing about a single schedule and start seeing the pattern in all of them. He learned what real time with a patient requires. He also learned exactly which decisions made above that visit quietly take it away.
Propel is the version he wanted to work inside. One patient, one Doctor of Physical Therapy, 40 minutes, a cause-first evaluation, and a plan with an endpoint you agree to before it starts. Outside the clinic he lives in the Austin area with his wife, Kimberly, and their four children, hikes and travels and trains when the calendar allows it, and volunteers at his church. The values on this page are not new ones written for a website. They are the ones he was already using.
“In this journey, he is committed to creating an environment where patients are at the center of care, and physical therapists are equipped to thrive professionally and personally.”
What We Believe
Convictions we build every appointment around, not words on a wall.
Not paperwork standing in front of it. Where it hurts and why it hurts are frequently two different places, so we find the why before we treat anything.
The doctor who finds the cause at your evaluation is the same doctor treating you at visit two, and visit six. Forty minutes, one-on-one, every time.
A plan without an end date isn’t a plan. It’s an open tab. Every plan moves through Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent, toward an endpoint you agree to up front.
A patient who understands their plan tends to follow it better than one who was handed a sheet. And direct access in Texas means no waiting on a referral to start.
The Difference
If you’re reading an about page before booking anything, you’re not being difficult. You want to know who’s actually going to put hands on you, and that’s a reasonable thing to want from a doctor. It’s the same instinct Dr. Joshua Lyon had on the other side of the table, which is most of the reason this model exists at all.
Feel the difference in your first visit.

Rooted in Cedar Park
We see patients from Leander, Brushy Creek, Jonestown, Austin, Round Rock, and Georgetown, and most weeks the front desk gets only partway down the schedule before somebody recognizes a name on it. Cedar Park is a small enough town that your physical therapist might also be your neighbor, your kid’s coach, or the person three cars back at pickup. It’s harder to treat someone like a number when you might see them again at the grocery store.
Skip the cause-first step and pain has a habit of finding its way back to the exact place you left it: the shoulder that behaves right up until the weekend you finally reach overhead for real, the back that holds up until the move, the trip, the yard work you’d been putting off. A plan with an endpoint only works if somebody actually found the endpoint first.
